The Artist

Artist Statement
My practice explores memory, identity, cultural inheritance, and the ways we understand ourselves in relation to others. I am interested in what we inherit, what we choose to carry forward, and how inherited ways of knowing continue to shape contemporary life.
Material is central to this inquiry. I work across painting and mixed media, incorporating textiles, stitching, collage, found materials and symbolic forms into layered compositions. Through accumulation, repetition, concealment and transformation, material becomes a way of considering what is remembered, what changes, and what remains.
My Yoruba cultural context is an important point of departure, alongside experiences of movement between places, cultures, generations and ways of seeing. Language, spirituality, family, place and collective memory recur across the work as ways of considering how we construct meaning and belonging.
I see art as both a personal and cultural practice: a way of examining what we inherit while participating in what comes next.
